I don’t really shop much at JCrew, usually most of their offerings just don’t spark THAT much interest for me. Sometimes I see something, but not alot. But the catalog and recent spring stuff got my attention for one reason; the fact that we get to see a fashion icon that is not 20 years old! JCrew featured Lauren Hutton prominently thruout the recent catalogs and I applaud their choice for many reasons. Not to mention she gives me hope that I too can age gracefully.

For some reason I am drawn to anything with a feather motif, especially peacock feathers. I love the iridescence, the soft shape - can’t really tell why I love them but I have for years. Most ‘motif’ clothing, however, smacks of puffy paint sweatshirts with kitties and bunnies to me but this cotton sequin tee from Tar-jay really looks pretty good in person, its subdued but still has some spark. The sizing, however, is a joke - I tried them on and if I get one, it would have to be in an XL, seriously. I put this on under a wine colored long thin cardigan and it looked much richer than you would expect.

I am especially glad this year the FPTB (Fashion Powers That Be) have decided to embrace one of my personal favorites. Mens style shoes , oxfords, lace ups, whatever you want to call them. I have been wearing this style for YEARS with EVERYTHING and as long as there are some nice details I always get people asking about my shoes. AND they are comfortable!!! Now maybe they aren’t the stiletto look some admire, and those have their place but for ‘everyday wear with flair’ you can’t beat ‘em in my long wet winter city. I already own about 6 pairs that I have been wearin forever but I still can’t help but look at the offerings coming out!

Here’s a couple Covetables:

Kister / Naturalizer $89

Adrienne Stitch Oxford/ Frye $188

Dear Coveters,

Recently we were lucky enough to have a lovely Emilio Pucci for Formfit Rogers bell sleeve beauty in an AMAZING shade of coral! Well, we are pleased to say this rare Pucci has found a new home! An avid and obviously elegant collector was very happy to be the one to snap it up! She shared with us a lovely story about the meaning and milestones that clothing can mark in our lives…

She writes “…it is a rare print to find indeed. My grandparents owned a winter home in Palm Springs from 1975-1986. It was my favorite place to visit and I have always adopted my Grandmother’s style and taste in clothes and furniture. (Mid-Century Modern)

This year we found out the house was for sale and my parents and I took a trip to see the house. My grandmother was my mom’s mom. When we got to the hotel, The Parker, which was very much my grandmother’s taste for decorating, we started unpacking. And my mom turned to me and said “Now all you need is that pink house dress she always wore.” And I said “You mean like this one?” And I pulled it out. Needless to say, we both started crying. A very emotional experience and time for us. I know it’s silly and it’s just a piece of clothing, but it just represents so much to me. Thank you again so so much!”
EPFR
We just love to hear this; its endlessly fascinating to us the way a simple garment can affect you, change the way you feel or become something more that just cloth. We are so glad to know this Pucci will be cherished! Clothing reflects the inner person, so be brave and let us know who you are!

…and waiting and waiting here. I actually had to break out a cashmere sweater today. IT IS JUNE, people! How can this be? Well, ok, I am known to have hands straight from the morguedrawer even on an 80 degree day, I run a bit chill all the time, and a small breeze makes me run for a scarf no matter what, but still!

In any event, there’s a tag-party going ’round some of my fav blogrs where you list your own wardrobe basics. This cashmere sweater would be one. I always try to stock up on larger size slouchy vintage men’s cashmere V-necks at the thrift store. You’d be surprised what decent quality ones I have found, older vintage ones from the 60s are great. They are usually so reasonably priced I end up using them in place of the ubiquitous sweatshirt everyone else wears. And they can be washed in cold water and layed out to dry like any other sweater, I find. I like to pair them with some dark bootcut jeans, a bit of silver jewelry and some interesting boots. No, not earth-shattering, but super comfy and just a bit slouchy-cool…

So, I will try to keep up w/dis , however, I have been recently doing some house painting and have been a bit bizzy. In the meantime, there’s a great project over at Square Old Soul that wants your take on the classic white shirt and jeans…one of my favs of all time, personally. The creativity to make it your own is what its all about. Add a little or a lot. Or none at all and focus just on the detailing of the pieces themselves.

This is IT for me… Jane Birkin, perfection.

Have a good wknd, Coveters.

Like so many, I check into StyleBytes daily - sometimes more than once. I have read her blog for a long time now and have really enjoyed her sense of fashion fun, tand that she seems a very genuine person. The fashion pictures have really stepped a notch recently too, and its cool to have a pet pig - however vicariously! Her little family makes me smile, so I, as have so many of us out there, been worried for some time now when she went to Stockholm for a few days and now its been a month since we’ve heard a peep.

I’ve emailed Agathe in the past; and have sold her some vintage lingerie for her growing collection, so I am really worried about her. Her MySpace is still up, etc. and not to get to stalking level, but I have sent her a couple of emails to check to see if she’s ok too. Nuttin.

I can only hope this bodes very well for her; perhaps she’s in the midst of a big new secret project that will bring back her stylevoice to us and she needs this time off! I hope that’s the case, and just want her to know she is missed!!!

Come back soon, Agathe!
